July 2 - MERRICK RECALLS BEEF SQUARES

Merrick Pet Care, Inc. of Amarillo, Texas is recalling 86 cases of its 10oz "Beef Filet Squares for Dogs" pet Treats (ITEM # 60016 LOT # 10084TL7 BEST BY MARCH 24, 2012) because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products. People handling the treats can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the chews or any surfaces exposed to these products. Consumers should dispsose of these products in a safe manner by securing them in a covered rah receptical.
 
Healthy people infected with Salmonella should initor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers immediately.

Chip n' Clip September 2, 2010

Chow Hound Pet and the Humane Society have partnered to provide affordable microchipping and toenail clipping for your dogs and cats. Microchipping is a great way to ensure that your beloved pet will find it's way home if it gets lost while playing outside. And clipping toenails is a monthly ritual that you probably would rather not deal with, that's why we will do it for you every month!
Our next Chip & Clip event is from 5-7 pm on September 2 at our 5265 Northland Dr. NE (next to Family Fare) location.

Chow Hound Hosts Route 66 Tour Sep. 8

Chow Hound and the Humane Society of Kent County (HSKC) welcome the North Shore Animal League "Get Your Licks on Route 66" cross-country adoption tour!

The custom 36 foot mobile adoption unit will travel from the Midwest to California on famous Route 66.

At each stop they will talk about homeless animals and help people adopt dogs from local shelters. They will stop in Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Sept. 8th at our 6787 Cascade Rd. Chow Hound store from 2 - 7 PM. (Phone: (616) 285-9111 Click here to view map.) There will be adoptable dogs and cats on hand from the HSKC. DON"T MISS IT!
